Deep Dive
Methodology
The IcyPluto Global Index measures how often and how favorably a brand appears when real users ask AI engines buying, comparison, and recommendation questions.
We source commercially relevant prompts from real user search behavior - the exact questions people type into ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude when deciding what to buy, which service to use, or which brand to trust. For each industry we track 9+ high-intent query patterns and refresh them weekly as consumer language evolves.
Each prompt is run across ChatGPT (44% weight), Gemini (33%), and Claude (23%), reflecting their current US market share. We run each prompt multiple times per engine to account for response variability, then aggregate the runs to produce stable signals instead of one-off snapshots.
Every response is parsed to detect brand mentions, mention position, recommendation intent, and source citation presence. A brand mentioned first in a direct recommendation scores higher than one buried in a long list or referenced only for comparison.
The Visibility Score (0-100) is a weighted composite of mention rate, average response position, recommendation rate, and citation rate. Weights are calibrated against purchase-intent behavior so scores correlate with real discovery likelihood.
Each engine has different verbosity, ranking tendencies, and update cadence. We normalize scores within each engine before combining them so final rankings represent true cross-engine visibility rather than one model's quirks.
The full pipeline runs every 7 days. Week-over-week deltas highlight brands gaining or losing AI mindshare, often preceding broader awareness movement by 2-4 weeks.
Join 500+ brands that track, analyze, and optimize their presence across every major AI model.
